Trophy Wife

I think it is time we women sit up and take notice of marketing and speak up when it is offensive. "Trophy Wife" is not a compliment…just take a look at the following definition:

Trophy wife is a highly pejorative term, usually applied to a physically attractive younger woman married to a man who has observed a high level of success, be it physical, financial, or otherwise. Usually, the Trophy Wife is not the first wife of the man who has a high level of success and has little to do with the achievement of that success. The term is often used to imply that the man’s intent is to exhibit his wealth and success, the social phenomenon known as conspicuous consumption. The term "gold digger" is used to describe a woman who intentionally seeks this arrangement.
The marriage of former Playboy playmate Anna Nicole Smith to oil magnate J. Howard Marshall is an extreme example as at the time of their marriage, he was 89 years old and she was 26.

What a horrible way to be identified. But unfortunately it's been true through the ages. I have noticed that older men tend to pick younger, fit, women based on their looks, and not because they have a brain in their head.

So here's the perfect example, and it's ironic that he just so happened to be the subject of my post yesterday: I had met my friend Arthur about 9 years ago when I was using the ICQ chat program. This particular friendship was safe for him because he lives in England and I live here in the United States, but we had planned to meet each other when he came to visit his sister and her husband in October. Arthur is the type of person who ALWAYS has to be in a relationship. He would break up with one girlfriend, and literally one week later he'd be on to the next, and each one seemed to be a little bit prettier then the last. About three weeks ago he met this pretty little thing named Linda at the gym he goes to. Linda is exactly half his age, she's 25, she's blond, and she weighs 110 pounds soaking wet. That says TROPHY GIRL, all the way around. But that is just so typical of Arthur, over the years that I've known him, he's had a minimum of 15 girlfriends, all based on how pretty they were. But when each of these former girlfriends showed the sign of being smart, he took off like a bat out hell.

I'm hardly beautiful but I don't want my husband ( if I had one ) to be proud of me for how I look, I want him to be proud of me for who I am and the positive things I contribute to this world. Hello? What woman wouldn’t want that from a man?
